British and Irish Sound Archives (BISA) meeting

Date:
16 May 2014 to 17 May 2014
Location:
Dublin, Ireland

BISA is delighted to announce that the 2014 BISA Conference will be held at Dublin City University on 16th and 17th May 2014. The programme will include the variety of presentations, papers and practical training and workshop events BISA members and regulars will know. If you've never attended a BISA Conference before, make Dublin 2014 your first! Read on for more about Fiontar's work...

BISA was very pleased to accept the invitation from hosts Fiontar, an Irish-medium research unit at Dublin City University (DCU), delegates from which attended this year’s event on the Isle of Man. BISA was last in Dublin for the inaugural Conference in 2006 when RTE hosted, so it's a timely and very welcome return to a great city and conference location. Fiontar is a teaching and research unit offering undergraduate and post-graduate programmes and research projects in the area of digital humanities through the medium of Irish. Notably, two projects have made wide use of archive and newly created sound recordings: Logainm ( www.logainm.ie ) , the Placenames Database of Ireland, and now the digitisation of the Irish Folklore Collection www.duchas.ie in collaboration with the National Folklore Collection in University College Dublin and the Digital Repository of Ireland.

We'll be issuing the first call for papers and contributions in the next few weeks, but for now, do please save the dates - Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May 2014 - for BISA's return to Dublin.
