Job Opening: University of Cape Town Libraries - Information Services Librarian

We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for this permanent position at UCT Libraries. The Brand van Zyl Law Library is a busy branch library serving the needs of the Law Faculty.

Requirements:
• Academic qualifications and experience
o An LLB degree plus PGDipLIS plus one year relevant experience in an academic or research environment
OR
o A first degree with law subjects plus PGDipLIS OR BBibl plus two years’ relevant experience in an academic or research environment
• A high level of reference and information services skills
• A high level working knowledge of electronic information resources
• A high level of Information Literacy skills and instruction experience
• Sound interpersonal skills and client service orientation
• A high level of computer literacy
• Good planning and organising skills
• Ability to work independently
• Evidence of being a team player
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure, show initiative and multi-task.

Recommendations:
• Experience in a legal environment would be advantageous
• Knowledge of legal electronic information resources
• A good understanding of trends and developments in scholarly communication.

Key responsibilities:
• Providing reference and research support services
• Providing instruction in the use of subject/discipline information resources to staff and students
• Liaison with relevant academic departments
• Collection development and maintenance
• Providing access to the collections through web-and print-based access tools.
Please note that this post involves evening and weekend work.

The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is between R345 813 and R406 792.
