Based on ISBD (NBM) 0.9The examples used throughout these rules are illustrative and not prescriptive. That is, they illuminate the provisions of the rule to which they are attached, rather than extend those provisions. Most examples are based on the description of existing items, but some fictitious examples have been included.

The terms, words or short phrases added to examples are in English in The IASA Cataloguing Rules. However, it is anticipated that when these rules are applied, these terms, words and short phrases will be given in the official language of the archive or cataloguing agency.
