UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

Just a friendly reminder that October 27, 2011 is UNESCO's 5th Annual World Day for Audiovisual Heritage! This years theme is "Audiovisual Heritage: See, Hear and Learn". If you are planning an event - even minor - please send the information and links (if relevant) to me at editor@iasa-web.org. All events received before October 17, 2011 shall be listed on the IASA website.

2011 has been an efficient year for the State and University Library in Denmark. One of the main goals for the library in 2011 has been to modernize students’ and researchers’ access to one of the most requested Danish audio visual collections: The collection of Danish radio and television spanning the years 2006-2011 with more than 500.000 hours of radio and television programmes.

Home Movie Day was started in 2002 by a group of film archivists concerned about what would happen to all the home movies shot on film during the 20th century. They knew many people have boxes full of family memories that they've never seen for lack of a projector, or out of fear that the films were too fragile to be viewed. They also knew that many people were having their amateur films transferred to videotape or DVD, with the mistaken idea that their new digital copies would last forever and the "obsolete" films could be discarded.
