18th Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council (BAAC) annual conference

The 18th Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council (BAAC) annual conference  will be held on October 28th in Tallinn, Estonia. The conference will be hosted by The National Archives of Estonia.

2022 is a year of challenges and concerns in connection with the war in Ukraine. It impacts every aspect of our lives, including safeguarding of audiovisual materials and collections. More than ever before society is aware of the importance of critical thinking and recognising ‘fake news’. BAAC continues to provide a platform for connecting AV professionals working in cultural heritage institutions and experts from neighbouring fields, for discussions, collaboration and exchange of knowledge.

The following topics are offered as starting points:

● Safeguarding  collections and data in times of armed conflicts

● Collecting and preserving AV materials relating to war and international conflicts

● Using AV collections in education: promoting, increasing visibility, finding historical evidence and combating false information 

● AV collections as a resource for new educational products and services

This conference will be held in connection with the workshop for teachers that will aim to increase understanding on re-use of AV materials in education and knowledge of available databases.

The conference language will be English.

BAAC invites presentation proposals for the 2022 conference in Tallinn. The closing date for submissions is June 19. All proposals must be accompanied by a brief abstract (max. 250 words) and should be sent to conference@baacouncil.org.
